From the upper veranda of Grand Canyon Lodge on the North Rim, the view opens across the canyon's layered walls, a vantage the lodge was built to offer. The lodge, designed by Robert Reamer and opened in 1928, was part of the early effort to make the canyon's North Rim accessible to travelers. This stereograph was published by the Keystone View Company, a major maker of stereo cards, and when viewed through a stereoscope the two slightly offset images merge into a sense of depth. The record's date of about 1929 is unverified, but the card reflects how the canyon was presented to visitors in the late 1920s.
