Few details beyond the sitter's name survive on this glass negative from February 26, 1924, and the title comes from data the National Photo Company wrote on the negative or its sleeve, which has not been independently verified. The Washington, D.C., studio produced a large body of portraits and news pictures of officials and public figures in the 1910s and 1920s. Streaks and small blemishes across the plate come from the gradual breakdown of the original coating over time, not from the sitter or the photographer's choices.
