The record names this sitter as Admiral Sir Francis "Birdgeman," probably a misspelling of Bridgeman, the Royal Navy officer who served as First Sea Lord, the navy's senior professional officer, in 1911 and 1912. The title also lists "Sir Howard," Frank C. Munson, and the date April 27, 1925, but these come from unverified notes made by the National Photo Company, so the identities merit checking. The firm produced many portraits of officials and public figures in the 1920s. The glass itself shows streaks and blemishes from the natural decay of its original coating.
