Children, a Catholic church, and porches mark this view of the covered walkways in San Francisco, Chihuahua, a town in northern Mexico. The glass negative is attributed to William Henry Jackson, who photographed across Mexico in the 1880s and 1890s, much of it during commissions tied to railroad development. The Detroit Publishing Company later issued prints of his work, and this view carries its number 5216. The record dates the plate only to between 1880 and 1897, so the scene offers a general glimpse of everyday town life in that period.
