A wide panoramic view, this print records the flooding of Dayton, Ohio, in March 1913, when the Miami and Stillwater rivers overflowed after days of heavy rain. The long, narrow format takes in a stretch of the flooded city at once, something a standard print could not easily do. The record does not name the photographer, and the title was assigned by a cataloger, so the image is best read as documentation of the disaster's reach. The spring 1913 floods devastated much of the Ohio Valley and remain among the deadliest natural disasters in the state's history.
