Lincoln is shown returning home to Springfield, Illinois, after the campaign that carried him to the presidency, a moment the title places in October 1860, just before the November election. The print is a chromolithograph from about 1898, made by the Rees Print & Lithography Company of Omaha, a firm that produced colorful lithographs for wide sale. More than three decades after Lincoln's death in 1865, such images reflected a lasting public appetite for his story, and by the 1890s they were common in homes, schools and businesses across the country.
