Askin & Marine's credit parlors were a Detroit business where customers could buy goods on credit and pay over time. This view dates to about 1906 and survives as an 8 by 10 inch glass negative from the Detroit Publishing Company, which documented the city's streets, storefronts and commercial life. Detroit was growing quickly that decade on factory work, and installment plans gave wage earners access to goods they could not pay for all at once. The negative was given to the State Historical Society of Colorado in 1949.
