The B. Siegel Company store is captured here in a large 8 by 10 inch glass negative, one of the Detroit Publishing Company's views of the city's commercial streets from around 1906. Department stores like this one were the anchors of downtown shopping at the time, drawing customers by streetcar and filling wide display windows with merchandise. The Detroit Publishing Company, which ran a large photographic and color-printing operation, made such views to document American cities and their businesses. A handwritten "Glover" notation on the negative is one of the few clues to who handled it along the way.
