The building carries the Uneeda Biscuit name, a brand of the National Biscuit Company that became one of the best-known crackers in the country after its 1898 debut. The soda cracker was sold in a moisture-proof inner wrapper meant to keep it crisp, and its advertising slogan became a popular catchphrase. This glass dry plate negative was made by the Detroit Publishing Company, which recorded cities, businesses and scenery in the early twentieth century, so the view documents a working food plant in a city whose manufacturing was growing quickly at the time.
