A traveler arriving in New York could, according to this 1894 poster, check a trunk through to London, with the London & North Western Railway handling the final leg. The company was one of Britain's largest, running from London's Euston station to the industrial cities of the Midlands and northwest, and it carried many transatlantic passengers on to the steamers at Liverpool. Printed in color by the Winchell Printing Co. of New York, the piece shows how railways on both sides of the Atlantic competed for travelers by selling the seamless journey as much as the ride itself.
