This lithograph is a travel poster for the Holland-America Line, promoting sailings from Rotterdam to New York with stops at Boulogne-sur-Mer and Southampton. Its subjects include the Statue of Liberty, which marks the arrival point for the transatlantic voyage, along with ships and a route map. Amsterdam printer L. van Leer & Co. produced it around 1950, when passenger service was rebuilding after the Second World War. The poster shows how shipping companies pitched the ocean crossing as a destination in its own right.
