Two Yale players, identified in the record as Stagg and Warner, stand full-length in this studio-style portrait taken in New Haven, Connecticut. The picture likely dates from the early 1890s, when college baseball was a serious campus pastime and teams often posed in uniform for photographers. Stagg is probably Amos Alonzo Stagg, who pitched for Yale in the late 1880s and later became one of the most influential college football coaches in the country. The record does not say more about Warner, so the pair's relationship and roles on the team remain open to research.
