The Geysers, a cluster of steam vents and hot springs north of Santa Rosa in Sonoma County, drew stagecoach travelers for its baths and mineral waters, and this stereograph shows the carriages gathered at the hotel grounds. Andrew Price made the view in 1880, and the card's notes also list Bret Harte (1836-1902), the writer best known for his stories of California mining camps and frontier travel. Stereo cards like this were sold in sets and viewed through a stereoscope, which gave the scene depth and made a distant resort feel close at hand.
