The title spells the name "Greene," but the hotel was the Green, one of the large resort hotels that drew wealthy winter visitors from the East and Midwest to Pasadena in the early 1900s. The long panoramic format, about nine and a half by thirty-seven inches, suits a broad building façade set among its grounds. The view was made by Haines Photo Co., a commercial studio that registered it for copyright in March 1908. An earlier caption called it the Hotel Queen, a reminder that titles on pictures like this were often corrected after the fact.
