Kom Ombo's temple stands on a bluff above a bend of the Nile in Upper Egypt, and it is unusual among Egyptian temples for being built as a double shrine, with two sets of halls and sanctuaries dedicated to the crocodile god Sobek and the falcon god Horus. Most of the surviving structure dates to the Ptolemaic period, roughly the 2nd and 1st centuries BCE. David Roberts visited Egypt and Nubia in 1838 and 1839 and made sketches on the spot, which Louis Haghe then turned into lithographs. This plate appeared in the second volume of *Egypt & Nubia*, published in London in parts between 1846 and 1849, and it helped shape European views of the monuments for a wide audience.
