Fifth Avenue in New York was the center of the city's Easter Sunday promenade, when churchgoers and strollers dressed in new spring clothes and walked up and down the avenue after services. The title on this 1912 glass negative comes from caption data the Bain News Service recorded, which the Library of Congress notes is unverified, so the exact moment is uncertain. The Bain News Service was one of the early commercial picture agencies, and its photographers covered street life, fashion, and public events for newspapers. Images like this one capture how the parade looked and who took part in it in the years before the First World War.
