Taken on Fifth Avenue in New York in 1912, this glass negative captures the city's Easter Sunday promenade, when churchgoers and well-dressed strollers filled the avenue to show off new spring clothing, especially elaborate hats. The parade had been a fixture of the avenue for decades, drawing families after morning services. George Grantham Bain's news service regularly photographed such street scenes, and the collection offers a detailed view of how fashion and public life intersected in the early twentieth century. The title comes from the original caption data, which has not been independently verified.
