Pictured is the People's Drug Store at the corner of 8th and H Streets, N.E., a neighborhood pharmacy on the east side of Washington, D.C. The chain grew out of the city's own drugstore business in the early twentieth century, and its corner shops were a familiar part of daily life for residents. The National Photo Company made thousands of street-level views of the capital between about 1910 and 1930, and this one catches the storefront and its show windows, which were built to draw shoppers in with displays of goods and signage.
