The Museum of Fine Arts, Boston, appears here in a glass negative dating from roughly 1900 to 1910, a period when the museum was growing quickly and its collections were outpacing its quarters. The Detroit Publishing Company, which made this view, sold large numbers of photographs of American cities, landmarks and public buildings, and its images give a useful record of how civic institutions looked before the mid-century. The negative came to the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
