Among the wartime posters on this board, this one is unusual for its subject: it advertises an exhibition of humorous art about the war, held in France in 1917. The catalog record lists scissors among its subjects, which may point to the wartime censor's shears, a familiar satirical target as newspapers and cartoonists worked under military review. Signed by M. Leroy, the color lithograph shows how French artists turned the hardships of the front and home front into public entertainment, even as the war dragged on.
