Titled simply "Photographic Views of Thailand," this print comes from the Frank and Frances Carpenter Collection, a body of material gathered by the American travel writer Frank G. Carpenter and his daughter Frances. Carpenter reported from Asia for American newspapers for decades, and his travels brought him to Siam, as the country was then known, which was not renamed Thailand until 1939. The record dates the print only to a span between 1890 and 1923, so its exact date and photographer remain uncertain. Pictures from this period were often assembled to illustrate written travel accounts for readers at home.
