Few pictures on this board show a meal being served aboard a hospital train, which makes this one unusual among the railroad views. The record gives no date, and the title comes from caption cards that the Bain News Service wrote without verification, so the scene's exact setting is uncertain. Hospital trains carried wounded soldiers and patients from the front or from crowded stations to better-equipped facilities, and the George Grantham Bain Collection, made up of news photographs from the early twentieth century, often captured such wartime and transport scenes. Looking at the people and the car's furnishings can help place the moment in its period.
