The Harlem River Speedway, a riverside drive along the Manhattan shore, is the focus here, and the Washington Bridge appears in the frame, linking Manhattan with the Bronx across the Harlem River. The road was built for carriage drivers and early motorists who wanted a scenic route beside the water. This 8 x 10 inch glass negative comes from the Detroit Publishing Company, whose photographers traveled widely around 1900 to 1915 documenting American places. The date of about 1905 is an estimate noted in the record.
