This 8 x 10 inch glass negative shows St. Bartholomew's Parish House in Manhattan, a building that housed the social, educational, and charitable work that an Episcopal parish carried on alongside its worship. It was made between 1900 and 1910 by the Detroit Publishing Company, which produced a large body of views of American cities, landscapes, and architecture during those years. The negative came to the Library of Congress through a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado, and it preserves a record of New York's built environment at the start of the twentieth century.
