The end view of this club carriage house captures a building type that was becoming obsolete as the period progressed. When this 8 x 10 inch glass negative was made, roughly between 1900 and 1910, horse-drawn carriages and their stabling still served the private clubs of New York City. The Detroit Publishing Company, which documented American towns, landmarks and everyday scenes across these years, produced the picture. The negative later came to the Library of Congress as a 1949 gift from the State Historical Society of Colorado.
