Fourteen mule teams hauling freight between Utah and Idaho make this 1942 view stand apart from the other wagon scenes on the board. The jerk line, a long single rein running from the driver to the bit of a lead animal, let one man steer a whole string without walking beside the animals, a method common on rough western freight routes. By 1942 motor trucks had taken over most long-haul freight, so a train this size was already a survival of an older trade. The caption information has not been fully verified, so the route and other particulars are best read as provisional.
