A c1922 photoprint of bandleader Paul Whiteman, issued by William Mills & Son of Providence, Rhode Island, a studio that produced copyrighted photographic prints for sale. The picture dates to the years when Whiteman was building his reputation leading dance orchestras, a period when he was often billed as the "King of Jazz." He later became known for large orchestral arrangements that blended jazz with classical forms and for his many recordings. The caption card also lists music recording and advertising among its subject tags, though the record itself notes that this information is unverified.
