Riggs's 1931 play about courtship on a farm in Indian Territory gives this poster its subject, and the title comes from a line in the play. The Federal Art Project's Los Angeles unit produced the silkscreen in 1937 under the Works Progress Administration, when federal artists made posters to advertise community theater productions. The play's rural setting, with its farm life, box social, and rivalry between two suitors, was later reworked into the musical *Oklahoma!* (1943), which makes the poster a useful record of an earlier stage of that story.
