Domenic Rotoli cut the woodblocks for this 1936 color print of the Port of Philadelphia, which pairs ships with railroad freight cars and shows how goods moved between the Delaware River docks and the rail lines. Posters like this came from the Works Progress Administration's Federal Art Project, which used inexpensive color printing to publicize cultural programs and public services during the Depression. The record credits the Federal theater Project as sponsor, a reminder that federal arts programs of the period often promoted their work through posters like this one.
