Most posters in this group show theater productions or public health campaigns, so this one stands out for its focus on Philadelphia's waterfront and rail freight yards. Its color woodblocks were cut by Domenic Rotoli, and the Federal theater Project is listed as sponsor. The Works Progress Administration's poster division, part of the federal arts program of the 1930s, employed artists to make inexpensive posters that could be printed in large runs and pasted across cities. A stamp on the back dates the print to August 1937, roughly a year after its 1936 design date, suggesting it was circulated or filed soon after it was made.
