Fringilla, the Latin name for the finch genus, gives this 1895 poster its title and its bird-themed imagery, and it advertises Richard Doddridge Blackmore's book of verse. Will H. Bradley, a Chicago-based designer who became one of the leading figures in American poster and book design in the 1890s, created it. The flat color shapes and decorative lettering reflect the period's Art Nouveau-influenced graphic style. Blackmore was better known as a novelist, especially for *Lorna Doone* (1869), so this poetry collection was a less familiar product. The Cleveland firm Burrows Brothers issued the poster as a promotional piece.
