Poor Richard's Almanac was the yearly publication Benjamin Franklin issued under the pseudonym Richard Saunders, and this single printed page comes from its 1748 run. Franklin filled the almanac with weather forecasts, astronomical tables, and proverbs, several of which, like "Early to bed and early to rise," remain familiar today. Because almanacs were among the few printed works that colonial families kept in the home, they reached a wide readership in Pennsylvania and beyond. The record notes that its data came from a caption card and is unverified, so details of this particular page should be read with that in mind.
