The Old Corner Bookstore, at Washington and School streets, is described on this card as the first brick building in Boston, a claim the record does not verify. Built in the early eighteenth century, it later housed the publisher Ticknor and Fields, which issued work by Emerson, Hawthorne and Longfellow and was the first home of the *Atlantic Monthly*, so the building became a gathering place for American writers. This c1909 photoprint was issued by the Detroit Publishing Company, known for its views of American cities and landmarks.
