Ethelwyn Wetherald's collection *The House of the Trees and Other Poems* is the subject of this poster, which was issued to promote the book. Wetherald was a Canadian poet, and the volume was published by Lamson, Wolffe and Company, a Boston firm with offices in New York that was active in the mid-1890s. The poster was designed by Ethel Reed, a Boston artist who became one of the best-known makers of American color posters during the 1890s, when that form enjoyed a brief vogue. Publishers used such posters to draw attention to new books in shop windows and public spaces.
