Peacocks, with their sweeping tails and eye-spot feathers, were a favorite motif of 1890s decorative artists, and this color lithograph uses them to advertise Will H. Bradley's own book of designs, *Bradley: His Book*, published in 1896. Bradley, a Chicago-based designer, was one of the American artists who brought the flowing lines of European Art Nouveau into commercial printing, and his posters and magazine covers helped define the look of the decade. The poster is worth studying for its flat areas of color, its bold outlines, and the way the bird's ornamental shapes fill the sheet as a unified pattern.
