Colonial Pennsylvania, the lettering suggests, still survives in the region's churches, costumes, and crafts, and this 1936 color lithograph makes that claim as an invitation to travel. Issued under the Works Progress Administration's federal poster program, it presents the Pennsylvania German countryside as a living heritage site at a time when the Depression had made regional tourism a priority for local economies. The pottery and folk traditions it depicts were closely tied to the farming communities of southeastern Pennsylvania, where many families had kept their language and customs for generations.
