Titled simply "Honduras," this glass negative captures a Central American country at a time when the National Photo Company, a Washington, D.C., firm known for commercial views, was producing images of places across the Americas. Between 1909 and 1919, Honduras's economy was heavily shaped by foreign fruit companies, especially on the Caribbean coast, where banana plantations and rail lines expanded quickly. The record notes that the negative was a gift from Herbert A. French in 1947, and the title and date are based on unverified information and on similar negatives from that period. Viewers may notice streaks and blemishes, which likely come from natural deterioration of the original coating on the glass.
