This is the second part of a Venice edition of the Apocalypse, the Book of Revelation, published in 1516 under the name Alexandro Paganini. Its woodcuts follow the visions of Revelation, and the designs closely echo the series Albrecht Dürer cut and published in Nuremberg in 1498. Venetian publishers of the period often reissued northern European designs like these for Italian buyers. Woodcut suited such books because the blocks could be printed alongside movable type in large runs, and the dense linework and dramatic angels and beasts show how much of the original's visual force was carried into the copy.
