The opening page of this 1520 Venice edition introduces a commentary by Jena Faure on the *Institutes* of Justinian. Issued in 533 under Emperor Justinian I, the *Institutes* was a concise textbook of Roman law and part of the larger *Corpus Juris Civilis*. Venice was among the busiest book-printing centers of the early sixteenth century, and its presses helped carry revived Roman law to university students across Europe. Pages like this one show how legal learning was packaged for those readers.
