A battle at the water's edge and the capture of Pánfilo de Narváez, shown here, is one of the rare episodes of the 1520 conflict pictured in a native-made manuscript. The image reproduces a scene from the Lienzo de Tlaxcala, a mid-sixteenth-century pictorial record that presented Tlaxcalan accounts of their alliance with Spanish forces during the conquest. The caption card gives no date for this print, so it is best understood as a later reproduction of that older painted source.
