Few houses sit as directly over a stream as the one this print titles "Falling Water" at Bear Run, Pennsylvania, known today as Fallingwater. Frank Lloyd Wright designed it for the Edgar J. Kaufmann family, and it was completed in 1939 on a rocky ledge in the Laurel Highlands, with cantilevered concrete terraces stacked above the falls. The house became one of the most recognized works of modern American architecture, and its close relationship to the surrounding woods and water is what draws viewers back to pictures like this one. Notice how the horizontal planes seem to hover above the creek rather than stand on its banks.
