This is the title page of a book rather than a picture, and its text is the point. It introduces an account of James Cook's Pacific voyages, which John Hawkesworth compiled from the journals of the expedition's commanders. The imprint names William Aikman and dates the printing to 1774, but the record lists both New York and Annapolis, so the place of printing is uncertain. Cook's first voyage, from 1768 to 1771, charted much of the Pacific and drew wide interest on both sides of the Atlantic, and this reissue shows how eagerly those accounts circulated in the colonies before the Revolution.
