This is the frontispiece and title page of John Bunyan's *The Pilgrim's Progress*, printed in London in 1678, and the catalog notes that the sheet carries no illustrations, so its appeal lies in the printed page itself. Bunyan, a Bedfordshire preacher, wrote the allegory during his imprisonment for unlicensed preaching, and it became one of the most widely read books in English. Its story of a man named Christian journeying from the City of Destruction toward the Celestial City made it a staple of household reading for generations, in Britain and in the American colonies. The catalog data for this item is unverified and drawn from an old caption card, so details of its exact edition should be checked against the record.
