A formal lily pond on the grounds of Yaddo, the Saratoga Springs estate of financier Spencer Trask, is the focus of this view. Trask, who died in 1909, and his wife Katrina developed the property with landscaped gardens and sculpture, in keeping with the style of wealthy country estates of the period. The Detroit Publishing Company, known for its views of American resorts and scenic places around 1900, made the glass-plate negative between 1900 and 1910. After Katrina Trask's death, her will turned Yaddo into an artists' colony, a use that continues today.
