Few things capture interwar British travel like this poster, which invites viewers to see the whole of Scotland on tours run by the Scottish Motor Traction company, or SMT. The bus operator was a major road carrier in Scotland, and in the 1930s motor coaches were opening up glens, coasts and islands that were hard to reach by rail. The poster's bold color and simple design reflect the commercial style of the period, when railways, bus companies and steamship lines competed for holidaymakers with eye-catching art. Its artist, Oxley, is recorded only by surname, but the piece shows how road travel was being sold as an adventure.
