Canoes drift on the Delaware River in the foreground, while autumn foliage covers the slopes rising on either side of the water. The Delaware Water Gap is where the river cuts through the Kittatinny Ridge, and a Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad train runs along the edge of the scene at right, a reminder that rail lines brought visitors to the region around 1900. The photochrom was made by the Detroit Publishing Company, which used a color process to turn photographs into vivid printed images for wide distribution.
