The Witch House in Salem, Massachusetts, is distinguished here by its signs: "Ye Old Witch House Antiques" hangs over one door and "Witch House Entrance" over the other, showing that by about 1901 the building was trading on its association with the 1692 witch trials. The house, built in the 1640s for Jonathan Corwin, a magistrate who questioned accused witches, drew steady curiosity from visitors. This photochrom, a early color process, was made by the Detroit Publishing Company, whose album of such views also served as a catalog for its office.
