A bridge at Bamban on the island of Luzon is the subject here, shown after insurgents had destroyed it and American engineers had rebuilt it. The scene dates to about 1901, when the Philippine-American War was still being fought and U.S. Army engineers were repairing roads and crossings to move troops and supplies. Underwood & Underwood, a firm known for stereoscopic views sold to home audiences, issued the card, so the image was meant to be seen as a pair through a viewer. The caption details come from the original card and have not been independently verified.
