Yale freshmen and a Harvard goat are the unusual subjects in this glass negative, which the record ties to the Bain News Service. The rivalry between the two universities produced many pranks in the early twentieth century, and mascot thefts were among the most famous. Harvard is in Cambridge, just across the Charles River from Boston, so the scene belongs to the same regional newspaper world that the board covers. The record gives no date, and the title comes from unverified caption notes, so the exact occasion remains uncertain. The Bain collection as a whole documents news events from roughly 1900 to the 1920s.
