Its title, *Was wir verlieren sollen!*, translates as "What are we to lose?", a bitter question for a German poster printed in 1919. The color lithograph belongs to the wave of public appeals that followed the Versailles peace terms, which stripped Germany of territory, colonies and industrial resources. The library's subject headings point to the economic side of that aftermath, and Louis Oppenheim's poster reflects the anger many Germans felt that year. The copy comes from the Rehse Archiv collection of German publicistic material, which preserves the printed ephemera that shaped opinion after the war.
